Port of Kissamos

Harbour Information, Terminals and Facilities
(Kissamos, Crete, Greece)

Set amid a beautiful landscape of hills draped with olive trees on the west of Crete is the district of Kissamos. The capital of the area is the town of Kastelli, also called Kissamos. Kissamos has two ports; an old fishing port that has facilities for mooring small boats and a newer port that operates ferry services connecting to the Greek islands of Kithira, the Peloponnese (Kalamata and Gythion) and the Piraeus.

The newer port lies just three kilometres from the town of Kastelli, close to shops, restaurants, hotels and a tourist information centre.

There are also medical and dental clinics nearby. The newer port structures include wheelchair ramps and the ferries provide for those with disabilities. Should passengers have special needs, they are advised to inform the ferry company in advance.

Visitors can take a ferry from the crowded port of Pireaus, from where they can start touring Crete from its western side. There is also a day boat to Gramvousa, but prior bookings must be confirmed for this trip.

Ferry Services

ANEN ferries sail from the port of Kissamos to Kythria, Antikithira, Githio and Kalamata. Usually there are several crossings a week. However, the services and scheduling of ferries are dependent on the weather conditions and demand.

A good website to help plan your ferry trip can be found at: www.gtp.gr. The ANEN shipping agents can be contacted directly at: +30 28220 22655; fax: +30 28220 23464.
